Midsommer Flight acknowledges that Indigenous peoples and nations, including the Council of the Three Fires: the Ojibwe, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi; as well as the Kickapoo, Miami, Peoria, and Kaskaskia, have stewarded through generations the lands and waterways of what is now colonially known as Chicago. Midsommer Flight honors the history of this land where we present our work, as first being a home and thriving trade hub for these nations. We honor and acknowledge that the stewards of this fertile ground were removed from their land through bloody conflict and unfair treaties, most notably the Black Hawk War of 1832 and the 1833 Treaty of Chicago. Today, we celebrate that this land is home to one of the biggest Urban Indian populations in the country. We honor and respect the enduring relationship that exists between these Indigenous nations and this land.
