Reviews
Midsommer Flight’s Twelfth Night returns in a joyously queer staging. Shakespeare was queering the narrative before that term even existed. So it makes sense that Midsommer Flight’s seventh annual production of Twelfth Night at the Lincoln Park Conservatory goes all-in on genderqueer playfulness this year. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Midsommer Flight, the little company that loves putting on quality free—or pay-what-you-can—Shakespeare for the enjoyment of the masses, has returned with its annual production of the Bard’s Twelfth Night, staged as always at the Lincoln Park Conservatory. And, as always, the patrons in the Conservatory’s Show Room are treated to a rollicking good time by a cast of talented performers having the times of their lives…. Every one of the actors in this company provides wonderful and memorable interpretations of their classic roles. …This year’s version of Twelfth Night is a night full of laughter, mistaken identity, and lovely music, set among the plants and flowers of the conservatory. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

This is not your grandfather’s Twelfth Night. Teaching director Bex Ehrmann, who created this production, said it is “queering the Bard in an effort to tell a more expansive story.” The cast includes trans and non-binary actors, and the final plot twist in this adaptation underscores Ehrmann’s statement. … The hijinks are carried off well by a strong cast. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Every member of the Midsommer Flight troupe is a superb actor, dancer, and singer. … The crew is just as superb. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
