Macbeth
directed by Beth Wolf
July 11 – August 30, 2015
Performed outdoors at Touhy Park, Schreiber Park, Gross Park, and Lincoln Park
Featured in the Chicago Tribune’s Summer Theater Guide as one the 40 essential shows to see over the summer in 2015, Shakespeare’s classic tragedy Macbeth included exciting sword fights, supernatural thrills, and a deeply affecting story. Upon hearing a witches’ prophecy that someday he will be king, Macbeth set off on a violent path to claim and hold onto the throne. Audiences joined us over the summer to experience the unraveling of an honorable man into a desperate killer, as he pursued his “vaulting ambition” to its ultimate conclusion.
Reviews
“The entire ensemble cast is terrific…. Sumptuous costumes… thrilling sword fighting…. Midsommer Flight has brought us a fresh, vivid look at a Shakespeare classic.” —The Fourth Walsh
“…the acting was incredible all around… The acting, the pace, the fight choreography, even the fact that this is an outdoor production, added to the flavor of the show…. I really recommend this show!”
— The Game Show Show, 8/11 episode
“Whether a Shakespeare fan or just looking for a free event in the Chicago area, a night out to see the cast of Midsommer Flight’s performance of Macbeth is a must.”
— Splash Magazine
“This is a very sophisticated acting troupe…. don’t be fooled by their humility and the simplicity of their setting. There’s excellent use of the simple acting space, graceful transitions between scenes, sensitive abridgement of the text, insightful and imaginative direction, and fine acting (including good projection and articulation) throughout… Bravo.”
— Jonathan, Gross Park audience member
