Come learn why knife is one of the most fun and deadly weapons used on stage! Whether in modern plays or the works of Shakespeare, the humble knife is a constant source of theatrical violence. It is also the perfect stand in for other weapons when the staging limits your space. In this workshops, We’ll go over the basics of knife fighting for stage, and take a look at why being closer to the danger keeps you farther from harm!

Instructors

Chris Smith (He/Him) is a fight director, teaching artist, actor, Special Effects artist, and video Engineer. Chris was born, raised, and is based out of Chicago, and is a proud member of IATSE Local 476 Studio Mechanics. Chris is a Certified Teacher with the ILFDC, and an Advanced Actor Combatant with the Society of American Fight Directors.  He had the pleasure of  working with theatres in Chicago Such as The Factory Theater, The Babes with Blades, Promethean Theatre Ensemble, Midsommer Flight, and more. Chris is also a Founding member of Midsommer Flight, and the Resident Fight Director. When not working in theatre, Chris is often behind the scenes on Television shows such as the One Chicago series(Chicago Med, PD, and Fire), Dark Matter, and Emperor of Ocean Park.

Meme Matteson (she/they) is a Chicago based actor and fight choreographer. Originally from Fraser, Colorado, they graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a degree in Musical Theatre. She has been training in Stage combat since 2017.

Additional Information

All classes and workshops are offered with three Tiers of pricing. Tiered fees are our attempt at creating a structure that accounts for the wide range of incomes within our community. There are a limited number of slots available for Tier 1 and Tier 2. This is an honor system. When choosing your ticket tier, we trust you to do what is right for you and your community.
